Kroshik, the cat, weighed an incredible 17 kg when he was rescued by animal enthusiasts in Russia. Here is his story.
Last week, a massive cat that weighed as much as a toddler discovered itself living in a Russian hospital’s basement. When he was saved by animal enthusiasts, Kroshik weighed an incredible 17 kg. The genuine Garfield, who was discovered to be too obese to walk, is currently on a diet and gradually regaining sensation in his legs at Matroskin Shelter.
The enormous cat was discovered living in the basement of a hospital in Perm, Russia, and was being fed by well-meaning hospital staff. Kroshik’s previous owners are suspected to have abandoned him at the institution.
According to local media sources, the chubby feline acquired weight on a constant diet of bread crackers, soup, alcohol, and meat, eventually becoming too heavy to walk. In fact, veterinarians at the city’s Matroskin Shelter were unable to perform an ultrasound on Kroshik because the sensor could not penetrate his layers of fat.
In an Instagram post on August 30, the Matroskin Shelter in Perm described it as a “extremely rare case” in which someone loved the cat so much that they fed it until he was unable to move.
“He could be one of the top 5 fattest cats in the world,” the shelter stated, adding that Kroshik would be housed at a rehabilitation center where he would receive physical therapy and follow a strict diet in order to walk again.
A little over a week later, the flabby cat is gradually regaining use of his legs. The sanctuary posted a video on Instagram of Kroshik walking on a water treadmill.
“The child will have a long and complete recovery. A unique rehabilitation program was developed for him, which includes hydrotherapy and kinesiotherapy three to four times per week, according to the shelter. “The little one is making great strides and is slowly starting to walk on the water treadmill!”
